That picture above is a Work-In-Progress gallery entry for the Heinz Historical Center I'm currently working on for a show later this year! The purpose of the show is to utilize illustration skills to generate interest for lesser-known Western-Pennsylvania facts. I chose to create my piece about Dr. McCleery and his wolves. Dr. McCleery purchased four wolf pups of a rare subspecies of wolves called the Lobos wolves. From these four pups he was able to breed and grow interest in the wolves among the public, and ultimately is credited with saving the subspecies! I found this to be a particularly compelling topic for me to draw because my family owns a camp in Kane and I have a lot of memories with the town. My grandparents used to take my mom and her sisters to see the wolves on Route 6, and my Aunt recalls hearing them howl on nights they spent at the camp! |
