It was like 65° today so I guess that means fall is actually HERE now- WEIRD. But I didn't actually start a new blog post to talk about the weather. I started a new blog post to talk about this:
What is this?? Well, it's a flopped project proposal I developed for an app called TouchCast. The project (created by author/teacher/colleague Zee Poerio) was meant to showcase TouchCast's ability to integrate green screen tools to make video projects more accessible for educational project in classrooms. I was developing it for TRETC (Three Rivers Education in Technology Conference) for November, and though the proposal was ultimately rejected, I still gathered enough to warrant a decent blog post.
You can see some of TouchCast's featured videos here. The app uses live footage from your phone/tablet camera to record video, and implements greenscreen editing (provided you are in front of a grenscreen while recording) to change the background of the video. The video can then be edited into an interactive experience for viewers by adding clickable content. And while the concept of using greenscreens (and even creating an interactive video) has been around for a while, making these tools readily accessible in real-time for students is a pretty new and exciting way to introduce kids to new media technology.

The assets I created for the app were meant to help frame a video around a book report project. Students would be able to edit themselves into a book scene to tell viewers about their story from inside the book! The proposal included a rating system for students to provide 1 to 5 star reviews on the story. Character, Plot and Setting video frames were also developed for students to drag and drop additional content (research links, drawings or more videos) into their TouchCast to help bring their report to life. |
